Annette's News

As most of you know, this year has been very quiet for Pneumata. I am still in recovery from a life threatening condition that needed emergency surgeries which included a hysterectomy. Also, my partner Al died suddenly soon after these. Those of us who met him could not forget the impact he made, his humour, extraordinary talent and loving nature with the dancers. Whilst it has been a heartbreaking and painful time in many ways, needing considerable time out, I can truly testify to the Lord's leading during this time and wish to thank those who have shown such love in various ways.

GIVING!!!!

A huge and special thanks to all those who have continued to support us financially this year, showing such faith in difficult circumstances! It has been deeply moving to see that, in fact, giving has increased. As a result, we are able to produce a film short in collaboration with award winning Phil Turner in 2008, with a view to it's eventual release in the American film festivals as well as the UK. Phil is investing heavily in it himself in several ways as well as developing it creatively. At the moment we are in the early stages of pre production of a very exciting composition and look forwards to updating you as this progresses...would you pray about giving to Pneumata at this time-just £10 monthly is SO helpful to us...your giving is our sole means of survival! Those giving sums regularly have enabled us to put ideas into action that we couldn't have imagined at this time-or maybe you would consider a one off donation. Please help! Do contact Captain Finance himself! Rob Henry 01283 701645 rmh@rhenry.co.uk

OUR NEW PATRON: We warmly welcome and thank the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu as Patron of Pneumata. We look forwards to all that the future brings us together!

LIBERA, BBC & CLASSIC FM TV

Our collaboration with Libera, Robert Priseman and the BBC with EMI and Classic FM TV continues with mutual affection as well as professionally. The piece we were asked to create as a support item for The Lighthouse project for Hull Community Church, with Joanne Hogg (Iona) as part of our ongoing work for Garry Boon at the BBC over the last three years, was enthusiastically received. Depending on budget allowances etc., Michael Wakelin proposed that we fill a half hour slot ourselves, produced and with additional direction by his team.

D RECORDS

Douglas Mew, founder of the Charisma record label (remember Genesis, Nazereth etc!) continues to develop work with us and his artists Monte Cristo (Cafe Del Mar, Ministry of Sound and tele theme tunes) to release their work through Notting Hill Publishing and Universal.

Christian Dance Fellowship of Britain, September 2006

We supported the CDFB conference with a series of master classes and were thrilled by the warm welcome of the CDFB committee as well as those attending.

King Cotton with Jude Kelly OBE, September 2007

Clyde's work on 'King Cotton', a show about slavery in Southern States of America and the cotton mills of the North of England, led us to work with the the dramatic aerial and scaffolding work on this major show at The Lowry Theatre, Salford Quays, Manchester in September. This wasn't a show where choreographic input was asked for in dance, so we worked on the spectacular drowning and battle scenes as well as the development of character movement. Directed by Jude Kelly OBE, Chair of the Arts, Culture and Education for the Olympic Committee 2012, Artistic Director of the South Bank, written by BAFTA award winning Jimmy McGovern and starring John Henshaw; it has proved a great opportunity for further exciting openings.

'...a giant adventure playground of bars and ropes and ladders...a thundering moral message..viscerally exciting battle at sea on Ti Green's stunning Act 11 set'-The Independent

'large scale spectacular'

'...the entire ensemble clambering the rusted metal girders of Ti Green's monumental set as though scaling a giant loom-some truly harrowing scenes:a slave being whipped until he sinks to his knees'-The Telegraph

'Tom makes a death defying fall and is saved by Sokoto'-The Stage

'an event on a scale of Les Miserables and a play that should be seen again and again by people everywhere'-Chris High, Liverpool Empire

'...a standing ovation'-Daily Post, Manchester

VICKY

Vicky is a gifted aerialist having worked on staging the aerial work of Lord of the Rings, West End, and teaches at Circus Space where she works with young urban dancers as well as corporately, with her skilled circus artists. We are in the early stages of discussions re: further developing her new urban dance/bungee work next year following them performing at the opening ceremonies of the Liverpool City of Culture, 2008.

KULJIT

We are also looking forwards to collaborating in composition with Kuljit, the amazing lead drummer from Bombay Dreams among many other credits!

YOUTH WORK-BURNLEY YOUTH THEATRE ('06), JUNIOR WILLINGTON PLAYERS ('07)

Annette was invited to work with an enthusiastic youth group developing physical theatre in Burnley by Thea Soltau. She later took the group to perform at The Lowry with an eclectic piece they devised with Thea, full of energy. Annette also spent time devising a concept for the young people in South Derbyshire working with the arts and worked in a consultancy capacity during her recovery on a fast paced piece of powerful drama and dramatic dance to extracts of music from Baz Lurhmann's music Romeo and Juliet.

Many, many thanks for all your support- wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Stay in touch-love all @ Pneumata! X
